OTTAWA, ON – May 7th, 2026 – The Future Generations Foundation (FG Foundation) is pleased to announce the beginning of a new partnership with the McConnell Foundation. This two-year commitment will support the FG Foundation’s impact measurement study examining more than ten years of grant-making to First Nations individuals and organizations. By investing in our internal capacity, this support strengthens the systems, learning, and governance required to responsibly steward Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement (IRSSA) funds and deepen our long‑term impact.
“Undertaking this work is an important responsibility,” said Naomi Racette, Executive Director at the Future Generations Foundation. “The IRSSA funds were entrusted to us to address the harms of Residential Schools. This study will help us reflect on how these funds have supported healing and opportunity, while ensuring that the voices and experiences of First Nations communities remain at the centre of how impact is defined and understood.”
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to reconciliation and to understanding the long-term impact of investments made. The impact measurement study will examine the effects of FG Foundation’s funding over time, including outcomes, benefits, and how impact is understood and experienced by grant recipients and communities.
“The McConnell Foundation is pleased to support the Future Generations Foundation under our Reconciliation focus area. Through this partnership, we look forward to helping them examine the effects of Future Generations Foundation’s granting over time, including what outcomes have emerged, who has benefited, and how impact is understood and experienced by grant recipients and communities,” said Brian Jackson, Reconciliation Program Director at the McConnell Foundation.
Support from the McConnell Foundation signals a shared belief in values based collaboration, learning together, and First Nations led solutions. Future Generations Foundation looks forward to walking this path alongside the McConnell Foundation as this important work unfolds. We see this as the beginning of a new relationship rooted in trust, accountability, and responsibility to future generations.
