Over $6.7 Million Awarded to Support Cultural Learning, Education, and Skills Training

AKWESASNE, ON – September 24th 2026 – The Future Generations Foundation (FG Foundation) has awarded more than $6.7 million through its 2026-2027 individual funding program, supporting 1,287 First Nations individuals coast to coast to coast.

Funding was awarded through three streams:

  • Cultural Learning: Funding for teachings from Elders and knowledge keepers in language, ceremonies, and traditional skills.
  • Training and Trades: Funding for trades programs, vocational programs, and professional development courses.
  • Scholarships: Funding for post-secondary education at universities, colleges, CEGEP, and Indigenous institutes.

This year, the FG Foundation received 2,390 applications and awarded a total of $6,744,394 million to successful applicants.

This investment reflects the FG Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting opportunities that strengthen cultural knowledge, educational achievement, and career development for First Nations people. Since assuming stewardship of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (IRSSA) residual funds in 2015, the FG Foundation has awarded more than $54.4 million in support of individual recipients.

Applications for the next individual funding intake will open in April 2027.
